Best Boutique Hotels in Kyoto: Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu Review
If you’re heading to Kyoto and wondering where to stay, I have to tell you about one of the most magical spots we just experienced, The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu.
This isn’t just another hotel, it’s one of those boutique hotels in Kyoto that feels really special.
Let me share all the little things that made it such a memorable stay.
Why We Loved The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu
First things first, the hotel itself is beautiful. It’s actually a renovated schoolhouse from the 1930s. You can even see the original post box still there at the entrance, which I thought was such a great touch.
The whole place feels like a perfect mix of historic charm and modern luxury, very Kyoto, very elegant, but also really welcoming.

Location When Choosing Boutique Hotels in Kyoto
This hotel is right in the heart of Higashiyama.
Honestly, the best part was that it’s just a short walk to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and those dreamy Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka streets.
Being so close meant we could wander there early, before the crowds hit, which was a total game-changer.
We even managed to be first in line when popular nearby cafés and restaurants opened, so no waiting around for a seat!
And it’s super easy to jump on a bus or train to explore further, so you really can’t beat the location, especially if you want to squeeze in some amazing day trips like my Epic Day Trip From Tokyo to Mount Fuji.
The Rooms at The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu
I can’t stop raving about the rooms, especially by Japanese standards, they’re huge!
Ours had this stunning view of the Yasaka Pagoda, and I’m telling you, waking up to that view every morning was like something out of a movie.
And if you don’t have a pagoda view, don’t worry, the lounge is gorgeous and looks straight onto it too.
Our room was super stylish and cozy at the same time, and I loved all the extra perks.
They top up the minibar daily (which was free and so handy!) and you can help yourself to drinks and snacks in the guest lounge anytime.
And here’s a lovely surprise! They also have a private onsen you can reserve.
Slipping into a hot bath after a day of temple-hopping felt so luxurious. This is one of those Kyoto hotels with private onsen that makes you feel utterly spoiled.

Food & Drinks
You have to try their breakfast. Sitting outside, feasting on all this incredible food with a view of the hills and Kyoto rooftops? Pure bliss.
The hotel also has its own sushi bar, and wow! So fresh and delicious. Definitely book yourself in for a dinner there if you can!
And don’t skip sunset drinks at K36. This rooftop bar is one of the most famous spots in Kyoto for a reason.
Watching the sun go down with a drink in hand and the famous Yasaka Pagoda lit up? Absolutely unforgettable.
It’s one of those little luxury experiences you only get at Kyoto 5 star hotels like this one.
Little Extras That Make It Special
One of my favourite memories was the exclusive maiko performance that hotel guests can enjoy.
Sitting so close to the performance was incredible! Afterwards we even got to speak with the maiko one on one, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Experiences like this are exactly what make this the best Kyoto hotel for cultural immersion.
And seriously, the lounge deserves its own mention. Unlimited drinks, snacks, and even alcohol throughout the day, perfect for a quick refuel before you head out again!

Is It Worth It?
It’s definitely on the higher end price-wise, but for what you get, the gorgeous rooms, location, all the perks, we felt it was 100% worth it.
This is one of those places where you actually look forward to heading back at the end of the day. If you want one of the most beautiful Kyoto luxury hotels for your trip, this is it.

Honestly, not much at all. The only thing to be aware of is that it’s not budget travel. So it’s more of a splurge stay. But if you want to treat yourself, this is the place.
